SCENE FIVE – IN THE STREETS OF VERONA
Tybalt enters.
| Tybalt | Where the devil is Romeo? Romeo! |
Romeo and Mercutio enter.
| Romeo | Here I am. |
| Tybalt | Boy, turn and draw your sword. |
| Romeo | No, let’s make peace, not war. |
| Mercutio | How can you say that? |
| Romeo | I don’t want to fight. |
| Tybalt | Romeo is afraid! |
Tybalt attacks Romeo.
The Montagues support Romeo, the Capulets support Tybalt.
Mercutio steps between them.
| Mercutio | Tybalt! Get out of here! |
They fight together. Mercutio is stabbed by Tybalt.
| Romeo | Stop it, Tybalt! Stop it, Mercutio! |
Mercutio falls to the ground.
| Romeo | (To Mercutio) Are you ok? |
| Mercutio | I am hurt. |
Mercutio falls and dies.
| MONTAGUES | Nooo! |
Romeo turns towards Tybalt.
| Romeo | Tybalt, come here! |
Romeo stabs Tybalt in his anger.
| CAPULETS | Nooo! |
Tybalt dies.
| Romeo | Oh no! I am fortune’s fool. |
Romeo runs away.
